About the condo....

  • ​Pros 

    • Parking right outside the room. 
    • Home was nicely laid out with large dining room table for eating and puzzling at the same time.
    • Best balcony furniture with rotating, rocking chairs and loungers.
    • Great ice maker. Large island.
    • Large windows and great views

  • Cons

    • On the 11th floor - long drive to come and go.

  • Remember

    • Lynn and the blender

    • Gwen losing her sunglass case off the balcony

    • The wind every day 

    • Karen's homemade jelly

2026 Orange Beach - Day 1 - Mon, 9.7.2026

Smyrna, TN to Orange Beach, AL

  • Day 1

    • In Smyrna 72°.

    • We left the house at 6:15 am and picked up David and Gwen at 6:30. We got on 840 to I65 South. Sandra and Paul and Karen travelled separately.

    • Our first stop was Alabama Exit 351, Highway 72 and ate at ChickfilA.
    • We got back on I-65 and drove 88 miles for bathroom break at a Pilot Truck Stop at Exit 264, Daniel Payne Dr in Birmingham.
    • We got back on I-65 and drove 106 miles to Exit 158, Love's Truck Stop on Tyson Road in Hope Hull, AL. It was so crowded because everyone was coming home from beach on Labor Day. The lines for bathroom was pretty long.
    • We left and drove just 69 miles to the Rest Area at Exit 99 in Conecuh County.
    • We got off I-65 at Exit 37 heading towards Bay Minette. Our next stop was at Bucees off I-10 in Robertsdale. I have never seen a Bucees so busy but we had to fill up with gas so we just got in line.
    • We met up with Paul and Sandra and Karen at DeSoto's Seafood on 1st Street in Gulf Shores at 3:15 pm.
    • We got to the condo at 23450 Perdido Beach Blvd, Phoenix West II (now called Oasis). We checked in to the condo at 4:30 pm. It was 91 degrees but a good breeze blowing. We sat on the balcony and Sandra led us into exercise routine but no one participated.
    • We waited on groceries to come from Instacart, but the driver was in a wreck so the food got here late, and the frozen food was melted.
    • Paul tried to find a movie and Gwen and Karen and Patsy started a difficult puzzle.

2026 Orange Beach - Day 2 - Tue, 9.8.2026

Orange Beach, AL

  • Day 2

    • 75° with a high of 83. There is 10% chance of rain forecasted for today. We had only 0.0” of rain in past 24. hours.
    • We took some sunrise pictures.
    • Paul walked on the beach and Lynn walked in the park.
    • The ladies made breakfast with sausage, biscuits, gravy and potato casserole. Afterwards Sandra and Gwen went for a walk on the beach.
    • We just chilled out until time for dinner at CoastAL. Sandra, Gwen, Karen and Patsy worked on mystery puzzle.
    • Latwer we tried to make some PinaColadas to go with our key lime pie. We were not sure of the mixing of the ingredients but finally got them right. Funny story about Lynn using the blender. After mixing everything  Lynn could not get blender container off the mixer. Then Sandra said you just to turn the container 1/4 turn and it will come off. Wala.
    • We played Farkle and Patsy won.
    • We watched a couple of episodes of Extinct.

2026 Orange Beach - Day 3 - Wed, 9.9.2026

 Orange Beach, AL

  • Day 3

    • The temperature was 74° with a high of 88. There is a 20% chance of rain forecasted for today. We had 0.0” of rain in past 24 hours. 

    • Lynn and Paul walked the streets separately after sunrise photos taken by Gwen and Sandra. Gwen had a unique photo with two suns coming up.
    • We decided to have bagels for breakfast to go along with some meat and eggs. Lynn and Paul walked across Perdido Beach Blvd to Bagel Boy (just across from condo. We had cinnamon toast and plain bagels with maple cinnamon and plain schmears.
    • Gwen and Sandra walked on the beach. Lynn went down to get some bird pics - just happened to find a bird pic with Sandra and Gwen in the background. Patsy got a good flying bird pics.
    • We hung out on the deck and reminisced about the old days and our health after turning 70.
    • We snacked for lunch and started the clean-up process to make early main meal at Oyster House.
    • Mystery puzzle still being worked.
    • We had early dinner at Original Oyster House and then had the annual photo shoot at Gulf Shores park.
    • We came home and watched The Brink of War movie.

2026 Orange Beach - Day 4 - Thu, 9.10.2026

Orange Beach, AL

  • Day 4

    • 76° with a high of 88. There is 20% chance of rain forecasted for today. We had 0” of rain in past 24 hours.
    • We watched the cloudy sunrise. Paul walked some on the beach (Got some bird pics) but came back when there was some thunder. Lynn walked on treadmill in the gym.
    • We had our big breakfast with eggs, bacon, biscuits and gravy and finished off Karen’s homemade jellies.
    • Patsy thought she might have UTI so we went to Urgent Care. She got antibiotics. Lynn had to do puzzle in her place.
    • We sat on balcony for a while and started a new puzzle after Karen and Gwen finished the mystery puzzle.
    • We went to dinner at 3:00 at Doc’s seafood. Their food never disappoints.
    • We got back just in time for the crowds to come in for the weekend.
    • We sat on the balcony a while.
    • We watched a beutiful sunset.
    • We watched a John Grisham movie - The Client.
    • We watched one more in the series Extinct.

2026 Orange Beach - Day 5 - Fri, 9.11.2026

 Orange Beach, AL

  • Day 5

    • 78° with a high of 86. There is 50% chance of rain forecasted for today. We had 0.3” of rain in past 24 hours.
    • We had thunderstorms in area - big boom at 4:30 am.
    • We had City Donuts for breakfast.
    • This is 25th anniversary of 9/11. We watched memories of that day, remembering WTC, Pentagon and Shanksville.
    • I walked on treadmill and Sandra and Paul walked the condo grounds.
    • We snacked for lunch and played Golf. Gwen won.
    • We ordered Crico’s pizza for dinner.
    • We were watching Dolly Parton movie Straight Talk when the fire alarm and evacuation announcement came over intercom. We were not walking down 11 flights of stairs so we drove down 11 floors. Looks like false alarm.
    • We drive back up and watched rest of movie.
    • We watched next episode of Extinct.

2026 Orange Beach - Day 6 - Sat, 9.12.2026

Orange Beach to Smyrna

  • Day 6

    • 69° with a high of 85. There is 0% chance of rain forecasted for today. We had 0” of rain in past 24 hours.
    • We packed up and headed home around 6:45 am. We had breakfast at Bucees in Robertsdale and filled up truck with gas. We had lunch at Chick-fil-a near Hoover. The drive was uneventful and we got home about 3:30 pm.
